The Reserve stock feature limits the available inventory to sync your online platforms by subtracting a reserve stock value from the available quantity.
This strategy can protect against overselling risks or retain store inventory on the shelf so that it does not sell out completely when also available online. Most retailers believe that their inventory is not accurate, so this approach can also save them from the inherent inaccuracies that crop up at retail.
Reserve stock by Location
Method | Effect |
Per Location | Single value subtracted from the inventory quantities for all products in each location |
Example: If you enter a value of 2 in the settings shown below, Mortar will remove 2 units of inventory from the value your Shopify customers see available to buy each time inventory is updated.
Tip: If you need more granular control, consider Reserve stock by Product. Access to Reserve stock by SKU is available on Scale and Enterprise plans.
Product availability
Mortar supports two unique Reserve stock values. Available to Ship is used for Shopify inventory quantity updates, and both are included in our Find-in-Store Display data in Shopify.
Available to Ship - the quantity subtracted from Shopify inventory quantity updates and also subtracted from the available to ship quantity from the location that is included in Find-in-Store Display data.
Available in Store - the quantity subtracted from what is available on the store shelf or for pickup included in Find-in-Store Display data.
Step-by-step
Reserve stock Location values for each location can be set on the Location Detail page.
Once you have changed the Reserve stock location value AND selected the Update button, Mortar will begin automatically updating the inventory levels for all products synced with Shopify. Depending on the number of products you have on Shopify, this process can take some time.
Setting Reserve stock by location levels
Select Locations from the sidebar.
Click on the location you would like to edit
Adjust the Location reserve stock - Available to Ship setting
Press Update
Location detail page
Modify the Reserve stock level for all products in a location on the Location Detail page of each location
