Overview
The groupbycolor tag automatically creates a separate Shopify product for each color option in your matrix/grid. This enables more flexible online merchandising, making it easier for shoppers to see the available product options when shopping on your site.
Groupbycolor example
In this example, if the Jacket and each color/size item are tagged with "groupbycolor", the integration will publish three separate size-only products to Shopify.
Attributes of Grouped Products
All "groupbycolor" Shopify products inherit the following attributes from the original matrix:
Attribute | Data Source |
Product Title | Item Description, plus a comma, and the color. |
Product Description | Web Long Description |
Tags | Any tags applied to the matrix/grid. |
Metafield | The Shopify handle for each published color option in the product (ie. track-jacket-black, track-jacket-white, track-jacket-red, etc.). This info can be used to merchandise the product in different ways on Shopify. |
Basic Requirements
For any matrix products that you want to be published and grouped by color. The "groupbycolor" feature requires that BOTH the matrix/grid and items include the "add" AND "groupbycolor" tags.
โ
Note: Tag BOTH the matrix/grid and the item options with "groupbycolor" and "add" in your POS.
For the "groupbycolor" feature to work, the product must be created by Mortar with the "groupbycolor" tags added first. If the item exists in Shopify before the tag is added, it will not split into multiple products.
If you wish to split up an existing product into multiple products based on the color you must delete the original product in Shopify first and then add the "groupbycolor" tag to the matrix product in your POS to prompt Mortar to recreate the product.
