Overview
All Heartland users are required to create a dedicated location in Heartland to use for the Order source. This will help you separate in-store sales from Shopify orders for reports in Heartland.

Comparing reports
Because Shopify and Heartland Retail handle reporting differently, you may find directly comparing reports to be inconsistent. The important part to know is that all your completed Shopify transactions are uploaded to Heartland Retail. You can validate reporting by checking a few individual transactions as you get started.
Open and partially Invoiced Orders
Open and partially invoiced orders in Heartland may not be included in reports that rely on invoices. Invoice all orders for the most accurate comparisons.
Returns
Shopify currently records returns with the date of the original transaction rather than the return date, like Heartland Retail.
Net or Gross Sales
Check the definition of the reports you use. Are they calculating Net or Gross sales? Further, how Heartland and Shopify define these reports impacts how you compare the reports.
Shopify net sales = gross sales, less discounts and returns, plus taxes and shipping.
Heartland net sales = gross sales, less markdowns and gross returns.
To accurately compare reports between Shopify and Heartland's core reports, you may need to create a custom report in Heartland to account for taxes and shipping costs.
Order Source
Heartland Retail has the ability to separate orders into Location sales and Source sales. Mortar strongly recommends that all Heartland Retail users create a dedicated location to act as their Order Source. Usually, this is called "Online" or Shopify".
This practice improves reporting greatly by allowing you to easily separate transactions that occurred on Shopify from your in-store transactions. Best of all, Heartland does not charge for this location.

Recommended Core Reports
Location: Heartland Retail Reporting > Core Reports
The following is a list of common Heartland reports you can use to review the sale and tax totals for Shopify orders uploaded to Heartland Retail. If you don't see the metrics you want, like refunds or a list of all transactions from Shopify, consider creating a custom Heartland Retail report.
Net sales by location
Using your Order source location, filter this report to quickly get a summary of Shopify sales for the time span you select.
Sales tax - collected
Use your Order source location to quickly get a summary of Shopify taxes for the range of time you select.
Current inventory on hand by location
Note: This is an example custom report in Heartland your needs may vary. See below for more on custom reports.

In Heartland, select Reporting > Analysis
Change the report settings as follows in the table below
Save the report for easy access in the future from Reporting > Saved Reports
