Overview
Several special-use required products may appear on transactions to bridge between a Shopify order and the way your POS creates transactions. The purpose of these products is to be informational and to ensure that financials are balanced to allow fully complete transactions to be made in your POS. Which required products you see will depend on your POS and the type of transaction.
Required product creation
Required products are created automatically by Mortar as needed.
ALERT! It is essential that these required products are NOT archived, renamed, or SKUs edited.
Note: During onboarding, Heartland Retail clients may be required to disable required fields temporarily.

If your POS allows, all required products created by Mortar are:
Non-inventoried
Non-taxed
ALERT! Deleting, archiving, renaming, or changing the SKU of a required product will cause Shopify orders to be blocked from being created in your POS.
Common required products
The following required products are used to balance transactions created in your POS. Because products on this list are created automatically by Mortar as needed, finding one that is missing is not an indication of a problem... until the product is needed.

Shopify Shipping | Shopify Shipping | Applied when shipping charges are included on a Shopify order |
Shopify Return | Shopify Refund | Applied when a product is not restocked during a Shopify refund/return |
Shopify Discount | Shopify Discount | Applied when specific discounts are offered on Shopify |
Shopify: Duties | Shopify: Duties | Applied to orders from Shopify with customs duties on shipments |
Shopify: Additional Fees | Shopify: Additional Fees | Applied when fees are applied to orders on Shopify |
Shopify Gift Card | Shopify Gift Card | Applied to orders from Shopify where a gift card is used or purchased* |
