Fixing "Conflicting matches"

Finding and fixing existing products that share multiple IDs and resulted in unexpected matches, which prevented a product from being linked

Updated over a month ago

Overview

Mortar uses multiple fields to establish unique links between your POS and Shopify products. When several products share some of the same IDs, this results in conflicting matches to multiple products. Mortar will automatically flag products with conflicting matches in your product report so that your team can manually review and fix them.

Sample of "Conflicting matches" on product report

Use the links in the product reports to open the products in your POS or Shopify to make edits to the SKU IDs used for matching.

Examples of conflicting Matches

One to Many

One POS product has several IDs, and each ID can create a unique link to different Shopify products

Example scenario:

You have 3 Shopify products that link uniquely to one POS product:

Shopify product #1 matches the POS SKU, Shopify product #2 matches the POS custom SKU, and Shopify product #3 matches the POS EAN.

Many to One

Multiple POS products have IDs that can create a unique link to either the SKU or Barcode of a single existing Shopify product

Example scenario:

You have two POS products that link uniquely to a Shopify product:

POS product #1 matches to Shopify SKU, POS product #2 matches to Shopify Barcode.

Fixing conflicting matches

Conflicting matches can be in either your POS, Shopify, or both. To resolve these conflicting matches more easily, choose either your POS or Shopify as your system of record. From this consistent reference point, the solution for all cases with conflicting matches is the same as for any other "Non-unique" product links: change the SKUs or Barcodes so that only one POS product and one Shopify product share the same ID.

Note: With practice and a reference point to keep track of, you can change the SKUs and IDs in either your POS or Shopify to break or correct products with conflicting matches.

Fixing "one to many" conflicting matches

Choose one Shopify product as the correct product to link with, then change/modify the SKUs for the other Shopify products so that they no longer match the original POS product.

Fixing "many to one" conflicting matches

Choose either the Shopify SKU or Barcode to keep as the correct ID to link to your POS product, then change/modify the ID so that only one unique link to the original POS product.
