Overview
You clean your physical store periodically; you should do the same for your digital store. Almost any product sold in your store will have a lifespan. When you've sold through all available inventory and reordering is no longer an option, it is time to archive these discontinued products in your POS.
Because Mortar considers your POS as the source of truth for your product information, the best practice is to make all product status changes in your POS.
Note: If you have archived a product directly on Shopify, consider archiving it in your POS as well.
Archiving products
Alert: If you are using any tag other than "add" to create products on Shopify, this includes web-ready tags like "accumula" or "Shopify," please get in touch with Mortar support to be upgraded to our simplified product management tags.
If a previously archived product "magically" reappears on Shopify, it was updated in your POS and met the qualifications again to be added to Shopify. Gain control over this by upgrading to our simplified product management tags.
There are two ways in your POS to indicate that you want Mortar to consider your product archived. You can either:
Replace the add tag with the delete tag
Archived the product in your POS
When is a product considered archived?
POS Status | Tags | Archive Product |
Not Archived | Includes the "add" tag | Published |
Not Archived | Includes the "delete" tag | Archived |
Archived | Any tags | Archived |
When archived or not tagged in your POS, Mortar considers the product as archived.
WARNING: The integration does not save any product data manually added to your Shopify product. Please consider your risk of data loss before setting the integration to Delete. |
