Syncing with multiple Shopify sites

Sync specific POS products to multiple Shopify sites using multi-site tags.

Updated over a week ago

Overview

Mortar can sync multiple Shopify sites with your POS. Simply install Mortar on each Shopify site, connect your POS, and tag your POS products.

Multi-site tags

The Mortar app includes a Multi-site tag setting that applies to each Shopify site. We recommend configuring a Multi-site tag in each Mortar install whenever multiple Shopify sites are connected to the same POS.

How multi-site tags work

Applying an action tag and one or more multi-site tags to a product will perform the action on that product in the specified sites. For instance, if you have 3 Shopify sites connected to the same POS and apply "add", "multisitetag1", and "multisitetag2", then the product will be added to the two specific Shopify sites.

Sending a POS product to multiple Shopify sites

Each Shopify site has its own Mortar account and unique tag for filtering products.

Setting up multiple Shopify sites with Mortar

To set up multiple sites syncing to the same POS, follow these instructions on each Shopify site.

  1. Install the Mortar app in each Shopify site and connect your POS to each Mortar installation.

  2. In Mortar > Settings, configure a single Multi-site tag for each site. The best practice is to use three or more characters to create a Multi-site tag that is an abbreviation of your shop name/brand or channel (i.e. wholesale). This tag will act as a filter to ensure only products with the same tag are added to the respective Shopify site.

  3. Set a unique Order ID Prefix in each Shopify site. This will ensure that it is easy to identify which site a sale came from. Go to Settings > Store details in each Shopify site and scroll to the bottom of the page.

If multiple Shopify sites are connected to your POS but a Multi-site tag is not defined, any POS product with the "add" tag will be added to all connected Shopify sites.
