Overview
Problems can occur if you make new POS products by duplicating an existing POS product. The best practice is to create new products from scratch in your inventory source. However, if you find duplicating existing products a faster workflow, use the step-by-step instructions below.
Problems with duplicating products
If a product you duplicate is already tagged to be added to Shopify, the products created by the duplication will be added to Shopify before you can update them with the new product details.
Note: To protect existing Shopify product details, Mortar product detail updates are turned OFF by default. Any changes you make to the product in your POS after duplicating will not appear on Shopify.
Identifying problem products
A new Shopify product with one or all of the following:
A title that includes 'copy'
Products that look incomplete
Product with the wrong details and inventory levels
How to duplicate POS products
Removing the "add" tag before duplicating your product will ensure that the trigger for adding a product to Shopify is not present until you decide it is ready.
Note: Removing the Action tag "add" from a product in your POS does not impact existing Shopify products.
Step-by-step
Remove the "add" tag from both the current product and any related matrix/grid
Duplicate your POS product
Make the appropriate edit to turn the copy into a completed new product
Apply the "add" tag when the new product is ready to be sent to Shopify
