Overview
The best practice is to create new products from scratch in your POS. However, if you find duplicating existing products a faster workflow, use the step-by-step instructions below.
Problems with duplicating products
If a product you duplicate is already tagged to be added to Shopify, the products created by the duplication will be added to Shopify before you can update them with the new product details.
To protect existing Shopify product details, Mortar product detail updates are turned OFF by default. Any changes you make to the product in your POS after duplicating will not appear on Shopify.
Solution for duplicating products
When using the Action tag "add" to create products on Shopify, removing this tag from a product will have no impact. Removing the "add" tag before duplicating your product will ensure that the trigger for adding a product to Shopify is not present until you decide it is ready.
Step-by-step
Remove the "add" tag from both the current product and any related matrix/grid
Duplicate your POS product
Make the appropriate edit to turn the copy into a completed new product
Apply the "add" tag when the new product is ready to be sent to Shopify
